There are many internships available that are energy adjacent and can provide experience in the energy space depending on how you apply. These programs include environmental, social impact, public service, and more.

Bay Area Climate Justice Fellowships

The Haas Center for Public Service offers five Partnerships for Climate Justice in the Bay Area (PCJ In the Bay) fellowships to supports partnerships between Stanford students, faculty and staff, and Bay Area community leaders to help build equitable climate change solutions.

Bill Lane Internships

The Bill Lane Center for the American West internships offer opportunities for Stanford undergraduates to explore careers in energy, conservation, land use, museum curation, resource management, natural history, and more. All internships last ten weeks.

Cardinal Quarter

Cardinal Quarter is a full-time, public service experience designed to integrate academic learning with field-based experience. Over 500 opportunities are offered each year through more than 30 campus partners involved in the Cardinal Quarter initiative.

Data Science for Social Good Program

The Data Science for Social Good summer program trains aspiring researchers to work on data science projects with social impact.  Working closely with governments and nonprofits, participants take on real-world problems in education, health, energy, public safety, transportation, economic development, international development, and more.

Ecopreneurial Summer Internship Program

Stanford graduate students can test their fit with an ecopreneurial career path by interning at an early-stage, sustainability-focused company for the summer. The Ecopreneurial Summer Internship Program (Eco-SIP) supplements the intern's salary over the summer when companies are unable to afford a competitive wage. Students most often self-source the startups for which they want to intern, but our staff helps curate a selection of eligible opportunities as well.

Environment and Policy Internships in California (EPIC)

Woods, in collaboration with the Haas Center for Public Service and Stanford in Government, offers undergraduates paid EPIC summer internships that provide a hands-on introduction to environmental policy work. Students who are selected will receive mentoring from environmental professionals and directly contribute to solving important sustainability challenges that are facing the public.

Graduate Research and Internship Program in Germany

The Europe Center, with support of the Stanford Club of Germany, sponsors graduate internships with German companies and research visits with institutions.  Spend 8-12 weeks in Germany pursuing internships or performing research such as lab exchanges and collaborative research at local institutions.

The Center for Social Innovation offers financial support for summer internships with high-impact organizations, as well as an immersion program to explore a social or environmental venture.

Impact Design Immersion Fellowship

Impact Design Immersion Fellowship provides summer funding for MBA students who want to gain a deeper understanding of a problem and the people most affected by it, to spend time interviewing stakeholders, developing relationships with experts and mentors, and getting feedback on prototypes of possible solutions.

John Gardner Public Service Fellowship

The John Gardner Public Service Fellowship provides opportunities for graduating seniors to invest their talent, energy and training in public service. Three fellows are selected each spring to work full-time for ten months with a government or nonprofit agency of their choice in the continental United States.

The Rising Environmental Leaders Program through Stanford Woods Institute works to develop the next generation of environmental leaders. This year-round program is open to graduate students and postdoctoral scholars and offers hands-on experiential learning and networking opportunities.

Stanford Earth Summer Undergraduate Research Program

The Stanford Earth Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SESUR) is a 10-week summer research program for Stanford undergraduates, from any area of study, who want to learn more about environmental science and the planet we live on. Students find a project - or propose one of their own - and work with a faculty member from the School of Earth, Energy & Environmental Sciences in the lab or in the field (or remotely) through the summer.

Stanford Impact Founder Fellowships and Prizes

The Graduate School of Business' Stanford Impact Founder Fellowship (formerly the Social Innovation Fellowship) provides $110,000 in funding along with advising support to Fellows who want to start a high-impact for-profit or nonprofit venture to address a pressing social or environmental need.

Summer Ecopreneurial Immersion

The Summer Ecopreneurial Immersion (Eco-SEI) program offers Stanford graduate students an experiential learning opportunity to evaluate a sustainability-focused venture idea over the summer. This program provides students who will be returning to Stanford after the summer the ability to evaluate their own venture ideas full time for eight weeks over the summer with a stipend, coaching, workshops, and a supportive community.
